Context
A year earlier, Mike Rosenberg was still competing for a spot to busk on the streets of Leidseplein, in Amsterdam. On June 15, 2013, the space is different: Pinkpop's main stage, in Landgraaf. Let Her Go had already reached number one in the Netherlands, but Passenger is still alone, with voice and acoustic guitar.
Rosenberg alternates songs from All the Little Lights with stories and covers of other songwriters. I Hate draws laughs and gets the crowd joining in. The Sound of Silence extends the run of covers; Dancing in the Dark comes later and stops before the end. Holes closes the set without adding any musicians to the stage.
The performance is part of the program broadcast by 3voor12 and Cultura24, preserving this contrast between festival scale and street format. In 2014, Whispers follows All the Little Lights. The Landgraaf footage stays tied to the earlier turning point: a singer who reaches the main stage without giving up the solo performance.
- I Hate brings together humor and crowd participation; Holes closes the show.
