“To see the early close of the Exodus Tour at the Rainbow, one day after the album's release.”
Context
On June 4, 1977, Exodus has been out for just one day when Bob Marley closes his run at the Rainbow Theatre in London. It is the fourth night at the venue and also the premature end of the European tour. A toe injury cuts short the plans to keep traveling.
Onstage, Marley brings together Junior Marvin on guitar, Tyrone Downie on keyboards and brothers Aston and Carlton Barrett on bass and drums. Rita Marley, Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths round out the vocals. Trenchtown Rock clears the way for songs of social conflict, while War / No More Trouble and Crazy Baldhead / Running Away keep the medley format.
Jamming, Get Up, Stand Up and Exodus close the performance, bringing the newly arrived record close to the songs that already sustained the Wailers. The American leg ends up canceled. The recording gets VHS and DVD editions and, in 2020, returns complete with remastered audio and video. The tour's early ending finds a permanence the itinerary never planned for.
- Crazy Baldhead joins Running Away, which only lands on Kaya the following year.
