“To see Flint and Maxim bring to the stage the era of an album recorded without them.”
Context
In May 2005, The Prodigy arrives in Landgraaf with a productive contradiction: Keith Flint and Maxim are on the front line, but did not take part in the most recent album. Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned had centered the work on Liam Howlett. At Pinkpop, the AONO Tour hands this material back to the band as a whole.
Their Law opens the show after the recorded intro. Flint runs across the stage, Maxim takes the microphone and Howlett drives the machines. Wake Up Call and Spitfire meet Breathe and Firestarter, while Action Radar and Climbatize work as links. The encore passes through Poison and Smack My Bitch Up before ending with Out of Space.
The performance also leaves a mark beyond the festival: Spitfire makes it into the extras of the DVD Their Law: The Singles 1990–2005, released in October of that year. The excerpt sits alongside the 1997 Brixton show and other archive footage of the band. Pinkpop documents the next stage: recent songs testing their place among the pillars of the 1990s.
- Tonight's Spitfire earns a place on the band's first official DVD.
