“To catch the live debut of Crestfallen at a free show in Hamburg during the Adore era.”
Context
Hamburg welcomes The Smashing Pumpkins for a free show at Spielbudenplatz, in May 1998. The band takes the Adore era to the street ahead of that period's run of European festivals.
To Sheila and Tear open the recording. Crestfallen appears in a performance marked as its live debut. Let Me Give the World to You is part of the night, alongside Tonight, Tonight, Shame and 1979. At the end, Thru the Eyes of Ruby runs into Transmission.
The Joy Division cover widens the finale. The file preserves an open-air show centered on the new material, with songs that show the shift toward Adore. Its date sets this meeting apart from the other European broadcasts of the same era.
