“To see Machine Messiah-era Sepultura trade the concert stage for the studio inside Morumbi.”
Context
Inside Morumbi, Sepultura's space is not the pitch but a studio. In 2017, the band arrives at AudioArena with Machine Messiah newly added to the discography. The album had been recorded in Sweden with Jens Bogren and provides the center of this session: five of the six songs come from it.
Derrick Green takes vocals, Andreas Kisser plays guitar, Paulo Jr. holds down the bass and Eloy Casagrande is on drums. Phantom Self opens the sequence, followed by Resistant Parasites and I Am the Enemy. Sworn Oath comes before the only departure from the new album: Kairos. The instrumental Iceberg Dances closes the thirty minutes.
The performance reaches the public in September 2017 as part of the AudioArena Originals program, a series of sessions produced in the studio itself. The recording preserves a focused snapshot of that moment, without turning to the albums of the 1980s and 1990s. Here, the band's present fills almost all the space.
- Iceberg Dances closes the session without vocals, in a set almost entirely devoted to the 2017 album.
