Context
On August 4, 2016, Wacken is the finish line. Iron Maiden ends the year's leg of The Book of Souls World Tour there, after crossing six continents. The road marks Bruce Dickinson's return to live shows after cancer treatment, which had delayed the band's plans.
On stage, Dickinson rejoins Steve Harris, Nicko McBrain and the guitars of Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers. If Eternity Should Fail opens a run with six tracks from the recent album. The Red and the Black and The Book of Souls take long stretches between songs such as The Trooper, Powerslave and Hallowed Be Thy Name.
Wasted Years closes the encore, followed by early birthday wishes for Dickinson. ARTE Concert's worldwide stream takes the 2016 farewell beyond the festival. The tour continues in 2017 and yields the album and film The Book of Souls: Live Chapter, which preserves this Wacken night's The Number of the Beast.
- Wasted Years ends with early wishes for Bruce Dickinson's 58th birthday.
