“To see a-ha's first performance in Portugal, in front of seventy thousand people at Rock in Rio Lisboa.”
Context
Portugal had never hosted an a-ha concert when the trio reaches Parque da Bela Vista on June 25, 2022. The debut happens at Rock in Rio Lisboa, in front of some seventy thousand people. The festival gives the band its largest crowd of that leg of the European summer tour.
Anneli Drecker joins the group on backing vocals. During the performance, Magne Furuholmen dedicates Crying in the Rain to the victims of the attack in Oslo the night before. The Portuguese stop therefore brings together a debut in a new country and a gesture tied to the violence that had just struck the band's home country.
The concert is broadcast on television and online, which preserves this first visit to Portuguese stages. Days later, the schedule moves on to Barcelona, Nice and Montreux. Lisbon enters the a-ha chronology as a late meeting with an audience that has known its songs for decades, in the middle of the 2022 European run.
