Context
On September 25, 2019, the road ends at Madison Square Garden. After crossing Europe and North America, Mark Knopfler arrives in New York to close the Down the Road Wherever Tour. Bonnie Raitt opens the night and stays close by for the reunion in the encore.
Knopfler takes the stage with ten musicians, across guitars, keyboards, strings and horns. Why Aye Man opens the journey, while My Bacon Roll and Matchstick Man represent the album driving the tour. The Dire Straits past comes in with Once Upon a Time in the West, Romeo and Juliet and Money for Nothing.
In the second encore, Raitt returns to share Wherever I Go; Going Home closes the concert and the season. The night gains another lasting form in an edit of fan recordings, completed with images from a live stream. The edit combines different cameras and receives AI image treatment.
- Wherever I Go brings the two singers together in the second encore and debuts on the tour.
