Context
In December 1989, Alice Cooper arrives in Birmingham with a new hit and a past he has no intention of abandoning. Poison had ended a twelve-year gap without a single in the American top 10. The Trash tour finds at the NEC the stage to bring together this commercial comeback and the macabre theater.
Trash opens the way for Billion Dollar Babies and I'm Eighteen. The new songs take their place among the classics, but the center of the show runs through Steven, Welcome to My Nightmare and Ballad of Dwight Fry. Al Pitrelli and Pete Friesen share guitars; Derek Sherinian takes the keyboards, with Jonathan Mover on drums.
The tour continues through 1990, and the Birmingham shows get another life on VHS that year. Directed by Nigel Dick, the film reaches DVD in 2004. School's Out and Under My Wheels close the stage sequence; Only My Heart Talkin' plays over the credits. The film preserves the meeting between the new hit and the old nightmare.
- Steven, Welcome to My Nightmare and Ballad of Dwight Fry form the theatrical core of the set.
