Context
On June 8, 1992, Pinkpop brings together The Cult, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden in Landgraaf. The meeting puts different generations of rock on the same ground. Astbury and Duffy arrive with the Ceremonial Stomp, having released Ceremony the year before and renewed the musicians backing the duo.
On stage, Michael Lee takes the drums and Kinley Wolfe the bass. Peace Dog and Wild Flower reach back to Electric; Rain keeps the link to Love. Earth Mofo represents Ceremony. Roadhouse Blues makes room for Jeff Ament, of Pearl Jam, before the close with Love Removal Machine.
The recording also gets a second life beyond the broadcast: Sun King appears on the DVD Pure Cult Anthology 1984–1995. In 1993, the Pure Cult compilation takes the band to number one in Britain, and another lineup backs Astbury and Duffy. Pinkpop remains a document of the Ceremony stage, before that next change of musicians.
- Roadhouse Blues brings together The Cult and Pearl Jam's bassist on a Doors song.
