Context
Rain falls through the night of June 8, 2002, at the Arena di Verona. Jamiroquai reaches the Roman amphitheater with A Funk Odyssey, their fifth album, released the year before. The European leg of the tour sets the recent songs against hits that already carry the band's big shows.
Jay Kay dances through the downpour and even mimes swimming on the wet stage. Around him, bass, drums, percussion, guitar, two keyboardists and three backing vocalists make up the lineup. Beverley Knight comes in on Main Vein, while Bad Girls makes room for a snippet of Singin' in the Rain.
In November of that year, the performance is released on DVD by Sony. It is the band's first full release in the format, with twelve songs and documentary material. The selection does not reproduce the night's entire set: it turns the show into a snapshot of the A Funk Odyssey era, with the rain built into the memory of the recording.
- Beverley Knight shares Main Vein with Jay Kay.
