Context
On the eve of a year without Andre Matos, Shaman takes over Audio in São Paulo for a show with no audience in the room. It is June 7, 2020, in the middle of the pandemic. Alírio Netto takes the microphone of a band that had resumed activity at the end of 2019.
Turn Away opens the musical run after messages from James LaBrie and Tobias Sammet. Hugo and Luis Mariutti, Ricardo Confessori and Fabio Ribeiro join Alírio between songs and conversation. Distant Thunder and For Tomorrow meet Brand New Me, while the breaks bring memories of Matos and reflections on isolation.
After the stream, the tribute takes another form with a Reason video edited from footage of Andre Matos. The recording also yields a separate release of the Distant Thunder performance. The night remains a document of this passage: keeping the songs alive without stopping the band, in the face of a still-recent loss.
- Brand New Me shares space with the songs from Ritual and Reason.
