Mark Knopfler

Mark Knopfler was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and rose to prominence as singer and guitarist of Dire Straits. After the band ended in 1995, he started his solo career with Golden Heart, in 1996.

Sailing to Philadelphia cemented that phase, while his later albums drew his songwriting closer to folk, country and roots music. He also composed film scores and recorded joint projects such as All the Roadrunning, with Emmylou Harris.
