Context
On June 5, 2014, the Nürburgring hosts a trip back to 1988. Iron Maiden arrives at Rock am Ring on the last European leg of the Maiden England World Tour, which began two years earlier. The starting point is the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son show, revived without confining the night to that album.
Moonchild opens the show, and Can I Play With Madness keeps the 1988 album in the foreground. Bruce Dickinson shares the front line with three guitarists: Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers. The track Seventh Son of a Seventh Son sits at the center of the route; in the encore, Nicko McBrain gets a Happy Birthday before The Evil That Men Do.
After Nürburg, the tour continues across Europe until it ends at Knebworth on July 5. The German show gains reach through the festival's television and online broadcast. The recording preserves this meeting between the six-piece lineup and a show designed to revisit the past, with Sanctuary closing the night.
- Nicko McBrain gets a Happy Birthday before The Evil That Men Do.
