“To see the Waters and Padden lineup at the Czech festival whose recording seals the exit from SPV.”
Context
On July 11, 2008, Annihilator arrives in Vizovice with Metal still its most recent studio work. Masters of Rock offers a stage to cross that phase with the past: two songs from the 2007 album share space with compositions from the early years.
Jeff Waters and Dave Padden split guitars and vocals, with Dave Sheldon on bass and Ryan Ahoff on drums. King of the Kill opens the set after the intro. Operation Annihilation and Clown Parade come in early; later, Never, Neverland, The Fun Palace and Alison Hell concentrate the weight of the early catalog.
The show gets a DVD and CD release in 2009, through SPV/Steamhammer. The release also marks a decisive negotiation: Waters delivers the recording in exchange for release from his contractual obligations to the label. The Czech night remains a document of this lineup and of a passage between cycles for the band.
- Operation Annihilation and Clown Parade put the Metal era next to the early albums.
