Context
In June 2014, Annihilator plays Rock Hard Festival for the first time, at the Gelsenkirchen amphitheater. Feast had come out the year before and still feeds the set. Dave Padden remains on mic and guitar, alongside Jeff Waters, in the last season of that partnership.
Smear Campaign opens the show, and No Way Out and Deadlock keep the recent album in play. Oscar Rangel takes the bass, with Mike Harshaw on drums. Alison Hell, Road to Ruin and Human Insecticide pull the show toward the early albums, while fans cross the crowd carried overhead.
The Rockpalast cameras preserve the meeting for WDR's programming. Months later, Padden leaves the band, ending the collaboration that began in 2003. Waters takes back lead vocals on 2015's Suicide Society. The record remains a portrait of a lineup that still holds two voices and two guitars on the front line.
