“To watch the celebration of choro's 150th anniversary, brought together by Henrique Cazes on the genre's national day.”
Context
On April 23, 2021, the celebration of choro's 150th anniversary coincides with Pixinguinha's birthday. Canal Brasil schedules a broadcast bringing together different generations of instrumentalists. Carlos Alberto Sion handles artistic direction and music production; Henrique Cazes leads the music and narration through this journey.
The program is divided into three segments and begins with Ernesto Nazareth, Chiquinha Gonzaga and Joaquim Callado. Cazes brings together cavaquinho, guitars, pandeiros and winds in different combinations. Maria Teresa Madeira and Leo Gandelman share Valsa Triste. Pixinguinha features in the first segment, while Tarde de Chuva and Chorinho em Cochabamba extend the journey through to Noites Cariocas.
The celebration also receives a digital album in 2021, with its own selection and sequence. The album brings together some of these collaborations but does not reproduce the program in full. The audiovisual recording retains a different structure: eighteen pieces, divided into segments, that place choro's founders and those carrying it forward within the same musical history.
- Maria Teresa Madeira and Leo Gandelman share Valsa Triste, by Radamés Gnattali.
- Everson Moraes brings the ophicleide to the special's lineup.
