“To see Ayrton Montarroyos close out his series of pandemic livestreams with Caetano, in black and white.”
Context
In 2021, connecting with audiences still means broadcasting remotely. Ayrton Montarroyos closes out his series of pandemic livestreams with twenty Caetano Veloso compositions. At Estúdio 185 Apodi in São Paulo, black-and-white imagery marks the end of this cycle.
Ayrton sings accompanied by Rodrigo Campos on electric guitar, acoustic guitar and cavaquinho, and Arquétipo Rafa on synthesizer, percussion and drums. Força estranha and Menino do Rio share space with Drama and A voz do morto. The selection brings together hits and less-traveled paths through Caetano's work.
The encounter does not end with the broadcast. In February 2024, the recording gets an audio release through Biscoito Fino under the name Alguém Cantando Caetano. Thiago Marques Luiz handles production and musical direction, with arrangements by Arquétipo Rafa. The close of the livestream series finds a lasting home on record.
