“To see Alcione celebrate fifty years since her first single, with a night dedicated to her career at the Municipal.”
Context
On June 5, 2022, the Theatro Municipal do Rio hosts a celebration that begins long before that night. Fifty years earlier, Alcione had released her first single, featuring Figa de Guiné and O Sonho Acabou. Now, the audience brings together guests and collectives connected to Black movements, women, and social initiatives.
The opening brings chants for Xangô and Iansã together with the verses of Resumo, recited by Maria Bethânia. Alcione leads the retrospective with Banda do Sol and musical direction by Alexandre Menezes. The medleys link Sufoco and O Surdo, A Loba and Ou Ela ou Eu, moving through sambas, romantic songs, and references to Maranhão.
The gathering continues beyond the theater. In October 2023, the concert film reaches the public digitally through a partnership between Biscoito Fino and Marrom Music; the project also yields a double CD and DVD. A total of 65 songs convey the scope of her career without reducing the singer to a single style.
- Maria Bethânia joins the opening with a recitation of Resumo.
