Album featured at the showRetocando Gil e Caetano2021The audiovisual recording is part of the instrumental project of the same name, dedicated to the work of Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso.“To see the instrumental collaboration in Salvador that anticipates the celebrations of Gil and Caetano's eightieth birthdays.”
Context
Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso's eightieth birthdays are still on the horizon when three fellow Bahian musicians come together to celebrate them. João Falcão Neto's concept brings together Armandinho Macêdo, Yacoce Simões, and Marco Lobo. Before reaching Sala do Coro do Teatro Castro Alves, the repertoire takes shape through personal favorites shared by the trio.
In Salvador, the songs need no singer: Armandinho's mandolin and guitarra baiana meet Yacoce's piano and Marco's percussion. The project moves through Palco, Sampa, and Tropicália without abandoning its instrumental nature. Among the chosen compositions is Armandinho, Caetano's tribute to the musician who now takes up its melody on strings.
The collaboration is released in audio and video in October 2021, ahead of the birthdays in 2022. The following year, the project also arrives on physical CD through Biscoito Fino and moves onto the stage. The Salvador session remains the foundation of that journey: three instrumentalists bring their own histories to songs that helped shape them.
- Armandinho performs the composition Caetano Veloso dedicates to him.
