Silvério Pontes

Born in Laje do Muriaé, in the interior of Rio de Janeiro state, Silvério Pontes grew up listening to concert bands and began studying trumpet at a young age. In 1986, he accompanied Luiz Melodia on his first tour and spent 12 years playing with Tim Maia's Banda Vitória Régia.

He has maintained a partnership with trombonist Zé da Velha since 1985; together they recorded six choro and samba albums, including Só Gafieira and Ele & Eu.
