Context
A desk in Washington hosts a band used to turning any space into a dance floor. In 2023, Nile Rodgers arrives at the Tiny Desk with new Grammys for his work on Beyoncé's RENAISSANCE. The session brings this recent activity close to the songs he has written, produced or helped build over decades.
Rodgers leads nine musicians on guitar and vocals. Kimberly Davis takes the powerhouse vocal passages, while Ralph Rolle draws responses from the audience. I'm Coming Out makes room for a saxophone solo; We Are Family breaks the flow before picking it back up. Russell Graham also sings the chorus of Soul Glo among the hits.
In the final stretch, Good Times meets Rapper's Delight, laying bare the link between the disco floor and hip-hop. Let's Dance closes the session with another side of Rodgers's work. Published in October 2023 as part of the NPR series, the recording preserves this circulation between artists and generations without relying on a spoken retrospective.
- Russell Graham brings the chorus of Soul Glo to the center of the session.
- Good Times turns into Rapper's Delight before the close with Let's Dance.
