“To see Nelson at the Greek Theatre in 2010, with Bobbie and his sons Lukas and Micah in the Family.”
Context
A Texas flag fills the back of the stage in Los Angeles. In 2010, Willie Nelson arrives at the Greek Theatre with the Family and a recent record that looks to tradition: Country Music, produced by T Bone Burnett, gathers country standards in his debut for Rounder.
On stage, the scale is different: Bobbie takes the piano, Mickey Raphael plays harmonica and Bee Spears holds down the bass. Lukas joins on guitar, Micah on percussion. Paul and Billy English complete the rhythm section. Without a full drum kit, there is room for Nelson to trade his singing with answers on his guitar, Trigger.
After this stop, Country Music receives a Grammy nomination for best Americana album. The record extends Nelson's work as an interpreter of traditional repertoire; the Greek recording keeps another dimension of this phase, the companionship of relatives and road partners in the same band.
