Context
In May 2019, the Pony road passes through the KEXP studio in Seattle. Orville Peck's first album had arrived in March on Sub Pop. The session takes place amid a North American schedule that includes clubs and opening slots for Lord Huron.
In the studio, Peck sings four tracks from the debut in front of the station's microphones. Turn to Hate opens the run, followed by Big Sky. Cheryl Waters leads an interview between the two musical segments. After the conversation, Dead of Night and Take You Back complete the performance.
The recording stays in KEXP's video archive as a slice of that first Pony season. In August of the same year, Peck records for the station again during THING, this time acoustically with Bria Salmena and Duncan Hay Jennings. The debut gets another framing without leaving circulation.
