Context
Seated in a chair that looks like a throne, Waylon Jennings opens the show with Never Say Die. His health already limits his body. On January 5 and 6, 2000, the Ryman Auditorium hosts the singer and the Waymore Blues Band for two nights of recording.
The stage holds guitars, steel guitar, keyboards, strings and horns. John Anderson steps in on Waymore's Blues. Jessi Colter takes four songs in a row, moving through I'm Not Lisa until she shares Suspicious Minds with Jennings. Montgomery Gentry and Travis Tritt also take part, bringing different generations of country together around the host.
Jennings dies in 2002, before the performance gets its complete video release. In July 2007, Columbia/Legacy issues the 22 performances on DVD and two CDs, along with interviews and rehearsal footage. The film preserves more than hits: it keeps the singer, his band and his partners together.
- Jessi Colter takes four consecutive songs and shares Suspicious Minds with Jennings.
