Context
In April 2015, John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John share an Australian tour of six shows. The partnership had already passed through The Main Event in 1998 and the opening of the Sydney Games in 2000. Now Melbourne welcomes the two with a band and a 60-piece orchestra.
At Rod Laver Arena on April 8, the meeting alternates individual spots and duets. Olivia moves through Magic and Xanadu; Farnham takes Age of Reason and Pressure Down. Chong Lim leads the orchestra alongside Farnham's band. The songs from Grease bring the two repertoires together, while Hit the Road Jack and Fever form a medley.
The tour goes on to Adelaide, Brisbane, Hunter Valley and Sydney, but it is Melbourne that makes the official recording. The performance gets a live album and, in August, a DVD with an expanded set. The film preserves the idea behind the meeting: two singers sharing not only the stage, but also the songs that built their careers.
- Dare to Dream revives the vocal partnership from the opening of the Sydney Olympic Games.
