Context
In 2003, the arenas and country radio point in opposite directions for the then Dixie Chicks. Natalie Maines had criticized George W. Bush in London, before the invasion of Iraq, and a radio boycott had hit the trio. The Home tour moves across North America in this climate of confrontation.
On stage, Maines shares the center with Emily Robison and Martie Maguire. Banjo, fiddle and mandolin sit alongside electric guitar, keyboards and a string section. Goodbye Earl opens the sequence; White Trash Wedding and the instrumental Lil' Jack Slade bring the arena show closer to the acoustic roots of Home.
The film does not belong to a single night: it gathers performances from the North American leg. In November, it reaches DVD together with a double album, with different selections from the same tour. The crisis also takes center stage in the 2006 documentary Shut Up and Sing. Here, the stage stays at the center of the story.
- White Trash Wedding and the instrumental Lil' Jack Slade put the acoustic side of Home in the foreground.
