“To see Savatage return to the stage of the 2015 reunion, now with touring resumed and without Jon Oliva.”
Context
Eleven years after the 2015 reunion, Savatage returns to Wacken with one decisive difference: the comeback already has road miles. The 2025 shows ended a long absence from touring. Now, on July 30, 2026, Prelude to Madness reaches the Faster Stage without Jon Oliva on stage.
Zak Stevens takes the mic between the guitars of Chris Caffery and Al Pitrelli. Johnny Lee Middleton and Jeff Plate complete the foundation, with Paulo Cuevas and Shawn McNair on keyboards. Screens with virtual stained glass and lasers surround the show. The selection focuses on Gutter Ballet, Edge of Thorns and Hall of the Mountain King.
The festival stop does not end the trip: the schedule continues to Tilburg and Pratteln. The record stays tied to the broadcast, with the full show available on Magenta Musik and three tracks gathered in this selection. Without presenting itself as a new album, the night documents the continuation of the return to the stage.
