Context
On July 15, 1989, water separates Pink Floyd from a crowd on the shores and in the boats of Venice. The Festa del Redentore hosts a free concert on a floating stage facing St. Mark's. The band reach the second-to-last night of Another Lapse, already without Roger Waters.
Gilmour, Wright and Mason share the stage with backing musicians and three singers. The opening cuts Shine On You Crazy Diamond down to its first part; Learning to Fly starts the block from A Momentary Lapse of Reason. The broadcast clock imposes ninety minutes, and Gilmour follows the timing of each number on a clock on the floor.
Run Like Hell closes the fourteen songs, before the festival fireworks. Off stage, the cleanup and organization fuel a municipal political crisis. The television recording finds another home in 2019: it joins The Later Years on DVD and Blu-ray, preserving the meeting between the band's scale and the Venetian setting.
- Shine On You Crazy Diamond opens the show with only its first part.
