Context
On October 2, 1995, Smells Like Children is 22 days away from stores. The tour already carries that name when Marilyn Manson takes over the Trocadero Transfer in San Francisco. It is the band's second headlining run, still with the debut album at the center of the stage.
Wrapped in Plastic opens the live set, followed by Snake Eyes and Sissies and Get Your Gunn. Daisy Berkowitz plays guitar, Twiggy Ramirez takes bass, Madonna Wayne Gacy is on keyboards and Ginger Fish on drums. Among eleven tracks from Portrait of an American Family come Tubeway Army, Eurythmics and the embryonic Smells Like Children.
After this California stop, the road runs until February 1996. Sweet Dreams gets airtime on MTV and helps widen the band's reach. The Trocadero night lives on in the audience-tape circuit: a Hi8 master transferred to DVD-R preserves this meeting between the first album and the next step.
- Smells Like Children presents an early version of the future Kinderfeld.
