Context
Two hundred fans fill the space of a performance that trades the scale of the tour for a studio gathering. It is March 28, 1998, in Cologne. Backstreet's Back had reached stores the year before, and the quintet is in the middle of its international tour when it records this acoustic special at VIVA Television.
Brian, Nick, AJ, Howie and Kevin share the stage with a string section and a choir. Between the group numbers, each member gets his own space: Brian brings together That's What She Said and Where Can We Go From Here?, while Kevin takes the piano. As Long as You Love Me and All I Have to Give carry the pop axis of the night.
The performance gets a VHS release in November 1998, with a CD of selections from the show. The DVD edition arrives in 2000, and the program includes two music videos as extras. The recording preserves a specific setup from that era: five voices, expanded backing and an audience of just two hundred people.
- The solo moments go through all five members and include Kevin Richardson at the piano.
