Context
Five years after its previous visit, Septicflesh returns to the Graspop Marquee on June 15, 2023. Between one visit and the next came Modern Primitive, the band's first album for Nuclear Blast. The third appearance at the Belgian festival finds the band with new material to put into circulation.
Seth Siro Anton handles vocals and bass, with Christos Antoniou and Psychon on guitars and Krimh on drums. The symphonic death metal fills the tent on the festival's first afternoon. The playing is precise, but the sound balance doesn't fully match the weight and ambition of the compositions.
The show is part of Graspop's broadcast program and gets an audiovisual festival record. The following year, the band once again takes its music to an orchestra and choir, at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens. Dessel preserves a different scale: four musicians on stage, holding up that symphonic architecture.
