Nação Zumbi was born in Recife in the early ’90s as Chico Science’s band and became the engine of manguebeat: maracatu drums, heavy guitars, hip-hop and psychedelia in head-on collision. Da Lama ao Caos and Afrociberdelia redrew Brazilian music. After Chico’s death in 1997, the band carried on with Jorge du Peixe on vocals and kept percussion as the heart of its sound.
To hear maracatu and the weight of rock meet in the mangroves of Recife.
