Context
On August 11, 2017, Testament takes the Ronnie James Dio Stage with a recent album competing for space with three decades of material. Brotherhood of the Snake had arrived the previous October. At Catton Park, the band opens with three songs from that record instead of starting with the classics.
Chuck Billy takes the microphone between the guitars of Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick, with Steve Di Giorgio and Gene Hoglan providing the rhythm section. Electric Crown, Into the Pit and Low span different eras of the group. Stronghold keeps the new album in contention, while Practice What You Preach and Disciples of the Watch lead into the final stretch.
The Formation of Damnation closes the performance, but the Brotherhood of the Snake tour continues. The itinerary moves on to further European legs and reaches the United Kingdom and Ireland in 2018. The full Bloodstock recording gets a digital release in April of that year, preserving this meeting of recent material and an established catalog.
