Context
In August 2018, being onstage already means something concrete for Mantas. Months earlier, the guitarist suffered a heart attack and underwent double bypass surgery. Now, on August 11, Venom Inc. makes its Bloodstock debut on the Ronnie James Dio stage at Catton Park.
Tony Dolan handles vocals and bass, Mantas leads on guitar, and Jeramie Kling takes the drums. Metal We Bleed opens a path between the present of Avé and Venom's past. Die Hard and Don't Burn the Witch tap into collective memory; Black Metal meets a crowd that sings along. Lady Lust adds a less obvious choice.
The day before, the single War arrives on ten-inch vinyl, while ideas for the follow-up to Avé are still coming together in Mantas's studio. In October, the festival itself releases the full performance on video. The recording preserves this interval between physical recovery and musical continuity: three musicians keep an older catalog alive without leaving the new songs behind.
