Context
Ten years without playing on English soil give the afternoon of August 12, 2016 another dimension. At Bloodstock, Venom takes the Ronnie James Dio stage under the sun. Cronos returns alongside Rage and Dante, with From the Very Depths still their most recent studio release.
Cronos handles vocals and bass, Rage plays guitar and Dante anchors the drums. The selection starts with Bloodlust and moves through Welcome to Hell and Countess Bathory. The title track from From the Very Depths, Grinding Teeth and Rise place recent material alongside songs from the early years.
The festival appearance gets a digital recording running almost 53 minutes, but it does not preserve the entire performance. Two songs from the opening and the encore are left out. What remains documents the English reunion without reducing this lineup to a visit to the past: Rise closes the selection with material from 2015.
