Context
On October 4, 1999, Le Medley hosts three paths through metal: Nevermore, Overkill and Mercyful Fate. Opening the night, the Seattle five-piece arrives with Dreaming Neon Black still fresh. Tim Calvert, formerly of Forbidden, plays second guitar alongside Jeff Loomis, in the lineup that recorded that third album.
Beyond Within and The Death of Passion open the identified sequence of the set. Warrel Dane leads on vocals, with Jim Sheppard on bass and Van Williams on drums. Next in Line and This Sacrament bring The Politics of Ecstasy to the center; Future Tense opens a passage into Dane and Sheppard's past in Sanctuary.
The road continues into 2000, when Calvert leaves the group after the tour. Nevermore then records Dead Heart in a Dead World as a quartet, ending the two-guitar partnership of that album. The Montreal footage preserves that configuration on the road: five musicians between the earlier catalog and the album that drives the trip.
- Future Tense reconnects Warrel Dane and Jim Sheppard with the Sanctuary catalog.
