Context
On May 5, 1999, Cardi's in Houston hosts Nevermore a few months after the arrival of Dreaming Neon Black. The band shares the bill with Iced Earth and Destiny’s End. This is the era of Tim Calvert alongside Jeff Loomis, with the third album at the center of the Texas stop.
Beyond Within and The Death of Passion open the sequence preserved in the recording. Warrel Dane leads the songs with Jim Sheppard on bass and Van Williams on drums. This Sacrament and Next in Line bring back The Politics of Ecstasy; the new album's title track and Deconstruction come later. Future Tense makes the link to Sanctuary before Poison Godmachine.
The tour goes on, but this lineup has a short shelf life: Calvert leaves the group in 2000, and Nevermore records Dead Heart in a Dead World as a quartet. The Houston stop circulates as a bootleg, and its sequence was already published in 2002. The recording preserves a slice of an era between two decisive albums.
- Future Tense brings back Sanctuary among the songs from the two most recent albums.
