Context
On May 23, 1999, the Roskilde tent hosts a project still in its first chapter. Max Cavalera had left Sepultura and introduced Soulfly to the public with an album in 1998. In Landgraaf, the Bring da Shit Tour finds a freshly changed lineup, with Mikey Doling on guitar.
Max handles vocals and guitar, Cello Dias holds down the bass and Roy Mayorga takes the drums. Eye for an Eye opens the run; Bleed brings Richie Cavalera to the microphone. The band races across the stage and jumps in unison. There is pressure, but also a less cohesive start, before the interaction takes shape.
Spit and Refuse/Resist keep Max's past inside the show without pulling the focus away from the first Soulfly. A few months later, Mayorga leaves the band; Primitive arrives in 2000 with Joe Nunez on drums. The professional footage stays in the festival archive and resurfaces in 2025, preserving this brief configuration of the group.
- Richie Cavalera shares the vocals on Bleed with Max.
