Context
On May 27, 1996, Rancid arrives in Landgraaf with a change of scale behind it. ...And Out Come the Wolves had taken Time Bomb and Ruby Soho to radio and MTV. The band stayed on Epitaph, while the European festival circuit widened the reach of that third record.
At Megaland, Tim Armstrong and Lars Frederiksen share guitars and vocals, with Matt Freeman on bass and Brett Reed on drums. Maxwell Murder opens the performance. The set brings Old Friend and She's Automatic close to Salvation and Radio, mixing the recent album with songs that already carried the quartet's story.
The Pinkpop stop is part of a year of shows in the United States, Europe and Japan. The festival also fills Dutch television, with extensive live coverage. Decades later, the footage returns through the event's archive and preserves this phase of growth with Reed still behind the drums.
- The Wars End makes room for an excerpt of Billy Bragg.
