Tour albumA Momentary Lapse of Reason1987 · A Momentary Lapse of Reason TourThe tour promotes Pink Floyd's first album without Roger Waters, with six songs in the film's main edit.“To see Pink Floyd's rebuilding without Roger Waters reach the big screen across five nights at Nassau in 1988.”
Context
In August 1988, Pink Floyd reach Long Island a year into the road since their restart without Roger Waters. David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright carry this new phase in front of the cameras. Five nights at the Nassau Coliseum provide the raw material for the film directed by Wayne Isham.
On stage, the trio expands with backing musicians and three singers. Signs of Life, Learning to Fly and Sorrow present the recent work, while Time and Us and Them pull the set back to the 1970s. Lights and staging stitch the two phases together without turning the night into a simple retrospective.
The recording comes out on VHS and LaserDisc in 1989. Decades later, the 35 mm negatives return to the editing table, with a 4K restoration and a new mix. The restored version joins The Later Years in 2019 and comes out separately on DVD and Blu-ray in 2020, preserving the portrait of this rebuilding.
- The Great Gig in the Sky splits the lead vocal among Rachel Fury, Durga McBroom and Margaret Taylor.
