Context
Seven years separate this afternoon from At The Gates' previous appearance at Bloodstock. On August 12, 2018, the Swedes return to Catton Hall ahead of Nightwish. The change is on guitar: Jonas Stålhammar takes Anders Björler's place, and the group presents its first album without the co-founder.
Tomas Lindberg gives the command during Slaughter of the Soul, and circle pits open up in the crowd. The band divides its hour among three albums, without reaching for material from before 1995. To Drink From the Night Itself opens the attack; A Stare Bound in Stone and The Chasm make room for the new era.
The Night Eternal closes the set, but the road continues: Summer Breeze follows the next week, and the album's promotion continues across other continents. The full performance begins circulating in March 2019. The recording preserves this return to the festival and a lineup that carries the group forward without Anders.
