Context
Three shows in about thirty hours: that is the tally Sven de Caluwé gives the Bloodstock crowd on August 11, 2019. Aborted takes the Ronnie James Dio Stage during the TerrorVision era, with Harrison Patuto filling the guitar slot Mendel bij de Leij vacated months earlier.
Rain pours down as the band starts, but much of the crowd stays in front of the stage. Sven calls for a wall of death even as the mud makes movement difficult. Coffin Upon Coffin gets heads banging, while Ken Bedene keeps the drumming precise. The musical violence meets tangible resistance on the slippery ground.
Deep Red opens the available recording, which moves through Necrotic Manifesto and The Holocaust Incarnate before closing with The Saw and the Carnage Done. The journey continues the following day in Oberhausen. The festival footage preserves this Sunday without erasing its central contrast: a band on a tight run of shows and a crowd braving the downpour.
