Context
On August 9, 2019, Children of Bodom returns to Bloodstock with Hexed still fresh. The band takes the Ronnie James Dio stage on a Friday at Catton Park, England. It is a stop on a tour that, months later, ends with the breakup of that lineup.
Alexi Laiho handles vocals and lead guitar, joined by Daniel Freyberg, Henkka Seppälä, Janne Wirman and Jaska Raatikainen. Are You Dead Yet? opens the set. Under Grass and Clover, Platitudes and Barren Words and This Road place the new material among songs from earlier periods, before Hate Crew Deathroll closes the show.
In December, this quintet's run comes to an end at Helsinki Ice Hall. Laiho and Freyberg later continue with Bodom After Midnight, before Alexi's death in 2020. The Bloodstock recording remains a festival document: nine songs from a band still presenting its tenth album.
