Context
Rain falls over Catton Park as Cannibal Corpse takes the main stage at Bloodstock on August 11, 2018. After Alestorm’s party, the contrast is immediate. Red Before Black, released the previous year, supplies four songs for a set ahead of Gojira’s closing performance.
George Fisher challenges the crowd to keep up with his headbanging. Rob Barrett and Pat O’Brien share guitar duties, with Alex Webster on bass and Paul Mazurkiewicz on drums. Between circle pits and crowdsurfing in the rain, there is a pause to dedicate A Skull Full of Maggots to the recently deceased Brett Hoffmann.
Stripped, Raped and Strangled and Hammer Smashed Face close the festival set. Some in the crowd wear Hawaiian shirts, recalling the band’s appearance in Ace Ventura. In November, the professionally shot footage arrives online, preserving this meeting of the Red Before Black material and memories of the early albums.
