Context
On Friday, August 13, 2021, Napalm Death takes over the Sophie Lancaster Stage at Catton Park. Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism had arrived the previous September. Now, four songs from that album reach the stage, alongside material spanning different phases of the band.
Barney Greenway shares the front line with John Cooke on guitar and Shane Embury on bass, while Danny Herrera handles drums. Silence Is Deafening leads the way. Before Contagion, Greenway speaks about people seeking asylum: the band's humanist stance finds words beyond the musical confrontation.
The closing stretch brings together You Suffer, Smash a Single Digit and Dead before Nazi Punks Fuck Off by Dead Kennedys. In January 2022, the full performance is released as a professional festival recording. The following month brings the EP Resentment Is Always Seismic – A Final Throw of Throes, extending the era of the album that fuels this night.
- Barney's remarks about people seeking asylum precede Contagion.
