Weezer

Weezer made the tension between vulnerability, huge riffs and almost childlike melodies one of the most recognizable languages in American alternative rock. The Blue Album turned nerd insecurity into arena pop; Pinkerton exposed a rougher, more confessional side.

Since then, Rivers Cuomo has steered the band through cycles of retreat, reinvention, calculated pop, guitars, orchestrations and seasonal concepts. The inconsistency became part of the work: few groups have played out their relationship with fans, nostalgia and expectation so publicly.

Why listen to Weezer?

To discover how giant guitars, emotional awkwardness and an obsession with choruses can sustain decades of pop mutation.
