Context
On May 31, 1993, Thelonious Monster arrives at Pinkpop after trading the Los Angeles clubs for international touring. Beautiful Mess, their Capitol debut, had come out the year before. The stop in Landgraaf finds the band on the rise, but Bob Forrest is going through a period of drug addiction.
On stage, Forrest brings Body and Soul?, I Live in a Nice House and Song for a Politically Correct Girl From the Valley to the festival. The performance also takes a dangerous turn: the singer climbs the sound towers and reaches the roof of the main stage. Persuaded to come down, he picks the show back up.
After this phase, the group's path breaks apart again. A new studio album only arrives in 2004, with California Clam Chowder and the reunion at Coachella. The Pinkpop footage preserves the contrast between the international opportunity opened by Beautiful Mess and the personal crisis that physically invades the stage.
- See That My Grave Is Kept Clean brings Blind Lemon Jefferson to the finale.
