Context
On May 31, 1993, Pinkpop draws 64,300 people to Landgraaf, sold out. Living Colour arrives with a recent change on bass: Doug Wimbish had replaced Muzz Skillings in 1992. Stain, the first album by this lineup, had come out in March and shapes the festival set.
Corey Glover takes the vocals, Vernon Reid the guitar, Wimbish the bass and Will Calhoun the drums. Leave It Alone opens the set, followed by Middle Man and Funny Vibe. Ausländer, Postman and Nothingness place the new material among songs from the first two albums, without turning the night into a Stain-only show.
Cult of Personality comes near the end, before the encore with Bi. The band continues through Europe, with Nuremberg and Ludwigsburg as the next dates. The split comes in 1995; the reunion, in 2000. Preserved in the Pinkpop audiovisual archive, the performance captures the quartet in its first cycle of recording and touring with Wimbish.
- Bi closes the encore after Cult of Personality.
