Context
Amid Pinkpop's guitars, the 3FM tent makes room for a different scale of movement. On June 9, 2003, Röyksopp arrives in Landgraaf after the international reach of Melody A.M. The Norwegian duo still has only the debut in its catalog, but is already working beyond the limits of that record.
Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge move through Röyksopp’s Night Out, In Space and Eple, interspersing their own material with remixes of Mekon and Felix da Housecat. The vocoder-processed voices reinforce the presence of the machines. The contrast with the rest of the bill is concrete: after Danko Jones, the tent trades the attack of guitars for an electronic groove.
The second album, The Understanding, only arrives in 2005. Here, the set still holds working titles and paths in development, before Poor Leno closes the show. The footage remains as an audiovisual document of this phase: not just the circulation of the first hits, but the work of turning a debut record into a stage experience.
